Looking to Book a Web Designer?

DETAILED CONTRACTS FOR ALL SIZED WEB PROJECTS

Protect your business and your expectations

You've found the perfect web designer.
They really "get" what your business is about, and you're just about to hire them. You can't wait to see their magic live online, and then share it with your friends and prospective customers. But you know you need a contract, or an agreement, if you prefer.

What do you need to do to protect your project?

Depending on your project spec, your web designer will have access to your email list (or perhaps they'll be the person that sets it up for you), they will access your server - and can see all the data there, and they may be the person that hooks up the payment system to your website, so they'll have access to your shopping cart or payment processor.

Your website designer will have access to all your core business tools, and you'll want to know they're looking after your privacy and an agreement (or contract) supports you with this.

You've heard about GDPR, and you will want to ensure your site is GDPR compliant too. GDPR also means you'll need to have an agreement with what your web designer and know what they will do for you, and how they will handle data processing on your behalf.

Now, if you're thinking you don't have any data, you'd be like the millions of others out there without an agreement protecting your business. Data is simple things like names, phone numbers, email addresses and you have to protect this or you can get in trouble. Privacy is just as important to your customers as it is to you.

Then there's your expectations:

  • Are they being understood in a clear and simple way?
  • What about copyright?
  • What about images and content?
  • Delivery times?
  • What "extras" are there? (things like landing page software, shopping carts, email marketing)

You need a web designer contract to protect your business

When you're asked what went wrong you'll say you didn't get what you wanted.

When you ask the web designer what went wrong with a project they'll tell you the client had unrealistic expectations and scope creep (adding bits to the project after the initial quote was accepted).

Sometimes, as a client you expect the web designer to create the words on the page. Did they know you thought this was their job?

Or perhaps you want them to use a certain style image. Again, do they know this information up-front or did you mention it fleetingly in a conversation?

You can see how it gets out of hand really quickly!

The fines for breach of copyright start in the hundreds and end in the high thousands.

What Our Customers Say...

I've just sent the Booking Form and Terms for the first time to a new client for signing. They have been incredibly complimentary about it. It's clear, comprehensive and they know exactly where they stand.

Taking on my first associate was really simple with the KoffeeKlatch associate agreements. I felt confident that the agreements would protect both of us if anything were to change and reassured by the level of detail they go into. Clauses on payments, holidays, confidentiality, standards of work etc. it's all there!

Claire Grace
The Assistant Quarters

When people ask me how do I cope with clients, contracts, data protection changes and running a VA business, I tell them I don't worry about it, I just ask KoffeeKlatch.   I don't have to be confused or work it all out on my own.

Is your business too small to need a policy pack?

No.  The smaller your business, the more vulnerable you are to some problems.   While big businesses have multiple systems and fail safes, for small businesses the only option is really to get it right first time.

If you are thinking you are exempt from all legal requirements (or problems) because you run a small business - think again.
